The Idea Street !!
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is the largest government department in the United Kingdom, and is responsible for welfare and pension policy.
It has more than 135,000 employees. The Department has four operational organisations:
Jobcentre plus ,Pension Service, Disability&Carers Service and the Child Maintenance Group.
WHAT IS THIS HR INNOVATION ABOUT?
The UK’s Department for work and Pensions encourage ideas from employees through a gamification platform called “Idea Street.” Points are earned for submitting and further developing ideas. Employees can also invest their points into promising ideas and if these ideas are implemented, more points are earned. Within 18 months of its launch, Idea Street had approximately 4500 users and generated 1400 ideas of which 63 moved into the implementation phase.
WHY WAS THIS INNOVATION IMPLEMENTED?
To drive innovation and motivate employees.
WHAT ARE ITS MAIN BENEFITS?
By implementing suggestions made through the game, the department expected to save roughly $30 million by 2014. Some of these ideas were deceptively simple but helped improve the efficiency of the department, such as a new way for employees to reserve conference rooms and a simple app that analyses the DWP’s data-storage availability . Although employees were receiving no actual cash they were very motivated by the recognition they receive through their ideas in the virtual market place.
